The C-I boys’ basketball team hosted their annual Holiday Tournament this past weekend. Deer River, Renville County West, and Fond du Lac Ojibwe were all in town for the three-day tournament.
The Rangers ended up winning all three of their games to take home the tournament championship. Breakdowns of each game are listed below.
Game 1: Rangers – 73, Deer River – 40
Johnathan Jacobson led the way for C-I against Deer River with a solid all-around performance of 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists. The Ranger defense held the Warriors to shooting just 25% from the field on the night.
Other Rangers in double-figures on the night were Sam Jordan 12, Kyle Skeim 11, and Joe Stokman 10.
Game 2: Rangers – 63, Renville County West – 55
Joe Stokman poured in 21 points and Kyle Skeim added 14 to lead the Rangers past the Renville County West Jaguars. Jaguar senior guard Justin Schrupp did all he could to keep the Jaguars in the game, scoring 35 points and knocking down 6 three-pointers. However, C-I prevailed in the end.
Game 3: Rangers – 96, Fond du Lac Ojibwe – 80
In the final game of the tournament, the Rangers found themselves in a shootout with Fond du Lac Ojibwe. C-I used a hot start to take a 60-36 lead into halftime. However, Fond du Lac did not go away in the second half, making 16 total three-pointers on the night.
Leading the way again for C-I were post players Jacobson and Skeim. Skeim scored 23 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in the game. Jacobson picked up another double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Also making their mark in the scoring column were Dakota Mitchell 19, Joe Stokman 15, and Sam Jordan 13.
The Ranger JV team also went 3-0 in the tournament to win first place in their division.
The team is off now until January 8th when they host Park Rapids.
